More Process Oversight?

Your process isn't working as expected, so is the answer must be more Measurements.  Right?  Maybe NOT!

Effective processes have a balanced approach across all 5 Process Maturity categories - People, Methods, Ownership, Expectations, and Measures.

If you have strength in all categories except Measurements, then yes, you need to improve the captured data and the analytics.  But, if the other maturity categories are weak, then measuring more won’t make an improvement, in fact it might take time away from solving real problems. 

Often times the default is to add more measures to the point we are over-measuring.  Instead, determine if the team should prioritize enhancing the process, upgrading tools, providing training, improving skillsets, and aligning on expectations.

Your challenge this week:  Review a process measures that your team is responsible for tracking and identify a low value measure to eliminate.
